Once there was a woman who lived by the sea.

Every day she watched mirages dancing over the waves — castles of light, beasts made of foam, visions too vivid to ignore.

The villagers said she was cursed. "Those aren't real," they sneered. "You're just delusional. Just… broken."

So one day, tired of their mockery, she did what they wanted.

She gouged out her eyes.

No more visions. No more laughter behind her back. No more beauty to be questioned.

She lived the rest of her life in darkness — safe from illusion, safe from wonder, safe from anything that could pierce her.

Safe.

But dead inside.

The moral:

You can numb yourself into safety, or you can let the castles on the waves seduce you, haunt you, ruin you with the ache of the maybe.

You can't have both.

And only one of those paths ends with your soul howling alive.
